April 2014 - PD Gabriele Pradel was appointed as a Heisenberg-Professor
In April 2014, PD Gabriele Pradel was appointed as Heisenberg-Professor in the Faculty of Biology at RWTH Aachen University. The Heisenberg-Professor is funded by the DFG for up to five years. Professor Pradel is now head of the research group of Cellular and Applied Infection Biology (CAI) in the department of Zoology and Animal Physiology bridging the gap between zoology, molecular biotechnology and medicine.
The focus of reasearch at CAI is the disease of Malaria tropica caused by the parasite Plasmodium falciparum, which is transmitted by the mosquito Anopheles to humans. It is the aim of our group to find transmission-blocking strategies, which will lead to a reduction of Malaria infections on a long-term goal.
